Bigger Is Better

Ellen C. Wells
In this age of tiny houses, tapas-sized meals and gas-sipping Smart carts, er, I mean cars, seeing something displayed in all its Hummeresque glory can be a breath of fresh air. Green Profit spotted a bunch of garden and home decorations at this summer’s IGC Chicago show that were Paul Bunyan-sized versions of themselves. And unlike McMansions, super-sized meals or Hummers, your customers wouldn’t be left bloated, bulging or too big for their britches—just happy and entertained with the nod to whimsy these items bring to their lives.

The wary-looking yeti and stately nutcracker have been staples at Design Toscano’s booth at IGC Chicago for years. The hungry squirrel and sedate bear are newer additions. A smaller version of the yeti that can be propped up in a tree sells really well, they say. Interestingly, customers buying Toscano’s larger items tend to be clustered in Florida and California.

The shine on these apples, pumpkins and snails—not just their size—attracted us to these items from the Dutch company Pottery Pots. The UV-resistant high-gloss finish is available in a range of colors, and the Vegetable, Fruit & Objects line also includes peppers, cherries, pears, strawberries, chickens, penguins and a host of other animals.

Not only is this peacock from Zaer Ltd. International bigger than its brethren, it’s got a lot of glitz and glam! It’s a nice piece for that extra-large interior planting or as a focal point up in a tree or on a pedestal in the garden. GP
