Retail Recycle
Jennifer Polanz
Visitors are guaranteed to find just the right do-it-yourself retail display at the annual Spring Trials. The Bobbleheads found several such displays that begin with a trip to your trash pile or recycle bin.
Pallets, Jacked
You have a ton of pallets. Use them! We found at least two ways to save pallets from the scrap lumber pile while on our tour.
The first idea comes from the creative mind of April Herring-Murray at Pacific Plug & Liner in Watsonville, California.
Stacked pallets not only create a wall in this display, but also give you a wall’s worth of hanging opportunities. Here, the gaps between the pallets give you room to attach boxes and buckets. With gaps up and down the entire wall, the hanging opportunities are almost endless.
The second idea comes to us from Syngenta Flowers, just over Hecker’s Pass in Gilroy. They alternated the direction of the vertically placed pallets to create an interesting pattern. Then, they created wooden boxes—likely pallet remnants—and attached them to the wall for use as planters.
Not Tired of This
Not one, but two, companies used painted tires to contain colorful plants in some way.
Syngenta Flowers used tires twice! One application was similar to Athena Brazil’s use and the second took the tires airborne, hanging and filling them with flowers. Coordinate flower and paint color for the biggest bang. And don’t forget—you can repaint these tires weekly depending on what’s in bloom!
