More Holiday Hires

Ann-Marie Vazzano
Thanks to growing employment across all industries and increased consumer spending, holiday hiring is expected to grow this year, according to data from global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas. In 2013, 786,200 seasonal retail workers were hired during the last quarter of the year, the highest number of seasonal hires since the year 2000. And that number is projected to reach more than 800,000 this year, a level not seen since 1999.

Seasonal hiring has improved every year since 2008 when seasonal hires dropped 55% (the worst holiday hiring year on record). Only 324,900 seasonal workers were hired that year. GP
