Mobile Phones Boost In-Store Sales
Ann-Marie Vazzano
It may seem like the rise of mobile means decreased brick-and-mortar retail sales, but that’s not the case. According to a recent Gallup poll, 22% of U.S. consumers say that mobile devices have increased their visits to brick-and-mortar retail stores. On the flipside, just 3% said it reduced their shopping trips. A recent Deloitte report found that using a mobile device before or while shopping helped convert about $593 billion in in-store sales in the U.S. last year—
that’s 19% of total in-store sales. That number is up from $159 billion in 2012.
