Despite the Rain, Field Day a Success

Chris Beytes
Article ImageIt wasn’t 95F in the shade, and the rain held off until about noon, both of which helped make the annual Ball Field Day & Landscape Day, held on the traditional last Friday of July, a big success for Ball Publishing’s sister company Ball Seed and the almost 1,200 customers and friends who attended.

What did they come to see? How about 150,000 annuals in 3,000 varieties spread across 10 beautiful acres of gardens. Plus, plenty of perennials, woodies, succulents and tropicals. Almost 400 of the guests took the opportunity to get behind the scenes in the Seed Processing Center and the Ball Premier Lab, to see how Ball coats, pellets, primes, tests, counts, packages and ships billions of seeds each season. There were seminars on Container Solutions, Multigenerational Digital Marketing, and New Varieties of Annuals, Perennials and Ornamentals.

Lunch in the big tent, sponsored by WebTrack To Go, was great as always. And while the noontime rain made the air heavy and the ground soggy, it gave hardy folks a chance to see which varieties are the most weatherproof.

Interestingly, Katie Rotella, Ball’s Public Relations and Digital Manager, (who celebrated her birthday during Field Day) told us that Ball Field Day trended number 5 on Twitter that day, right behind National Chicken Wing Day. That’s big! GT
