Organic Options with Ellepots & Riococo

Organic hydroponic growers have a few more options when it comes to plugs.

Denmark’s Ellegaard recently announced that its hydroponic paper is now certified as a crop production aid for use in organic agriculture, with the certification coming from the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

For A.M.A Plastics, they buy paper for their Ellepot production from Ellegaard, which means they’ll be able to supply to plant propagators a greener sustainable rooting media solution in the form of Ellepots.

A.M.A. Plastics says, “We can produce Ellepots by A.M.A. with an organic mix certified by Quebec Vrai, which we’ve been using for a few years already.” However, they do caution, “Growers should have this information reviewed by their own certifier to ensure organic standards compliance.”

They say the newly certified hydroponic paper also means that a crop, including the Ellepot, can be disposed of in a composting facility at the end of the production cycle.

Meanwhile, we also received word that Hort Americas has introduced an OMRI-Certified Plug for hydroponics—the Riococo Closed Bottom Organic Plug. GT
