How to Fund Your Energy Improvements

Jennifer Duffield White
If you’re thinking about energy efficiency upgrades or renewable energy systems for your garden center or greenhouse, now is the time to find out how the Rural Energy for America Program can help fund part of your project.

These grants can help cover the cost of everything from energy curtains to new boilers, lighting, solar energy panels, geothermal and more.

The May 2, 2016 deadline is for:
• Grants of $20,000 or less

• Unrestricted Grants (up to $500,000)

If you’re looking for a loan guarantee, rather than a grant, those applications are accepted throughout the year.
How to apply: While this is a nationwide program, you will apply through your state Rural Development office. Questions should be directed to them. Find your office at www.rd.usda.gov/files/RBS_StateEnergyCoordinators.pdf. GT
