FloraHolland Goes Into Publishing

Chris Beytes
Since 1993, when I joined Ball Publishing, I’ve been involved with FloraCulture International, which we founded to be sort of the international version of GrowerTalks. I’ve written for and edited FCI since then and traveled the world on its behalf.

In 2006, we sold the magazine to long-time columnist and Dutch industry veteran Jaap Kras, who continued to refine and evolve the magazine, which remains an integral voice in international floriculture business, and I still contribute features from North America and my travels.

Now FCI is under new management: Jaap informed me recently that the magazine has been taken over by FloraHolland, the Dutch flower auction. He didn’t give me any more details than that, but FloraHolland writes on its website that it will be taking over “the activities and editorial team” of the magazine “in a move that reflects FloraHolland’s international ambitions.”

No word on the financial nature of the deal, but editor Ron van der Ploeg says he wants to keep GrowerTalks as FCI’s sister publication. GT
