New Garden Center Opens on Old Martin Viette Site

Jennifer Polanz
The Dubner family purchased the 42 acres in January that was formerly the site of Martin Viette Nursery in Muttontown on Long Island in New York. It’s been a gardening icon for 87 years and will continue as a retail location under the new name Heritage Farm & Garden.

The garden center opened April 5, but it’s not the first horticulture venture for the Dubner family. Steven Dubner has been designing and building landscapes and outdoor spaces for more than 50 years via his Long Island firm Steve Dubner Landscaping. He also owns a well-known nursery farm on the North Fork. His daughter Wendy Dubner Master, a lawyer by trade and former owner of a decorative pottery and planter distribution business catering to independent garden centers, will design the store’s layout and define the product selection at retail.

It sounds as though area residents are relieved the 42-acre property won’t be used for real estate development and we’re happy to see the location reopen as a garden center. Best of luck to the Dubner family! GP
