Bloem Buys BloomBagz
Ellen C. Wells
Bloem Living, LLC announced recently that they’ve acquired a Wisconsin-based start-up called BloomBagz. BloomBagz developed a series of fabric planters made from a material consistent with recycled water bottles. These portable-type planters feature air-pruning and root-tapping technology—and they’re machine washable, too. Bloem’s President Ryan Mast became familiar with these planting bags at an industry show.
“Immediately we realized its market potential and saw how it could fit within our distribution network,” he says. “The quality and versatility of the products combined with the environmental commitment and stylish designs are aligned with our long-term objectives.”
The BloomBagz product line will be Bloem’s first non-molded plastic planter and will lead the way into broadening Bloem’s offerings. The interesting thing about this acquisition is that BloomBagz was in the process of raising funds through Kickstarter when the Bloem folks first found out about them.
Now, there’s a limited supply of BloomBagz for this spring and those are spoken for. But the product will be in Bloem’s catalog starting in May. When asked if the last mention of the newly acquired line in his press release had a typo or rather did it hint at a product name change, Ryan said via email, “You caught our subtle hint of a change. Yes, the branding will be aligned with the Bloem branding as we move forward and the brand will be named Bloembagz.”
