Fleuroselect has awarded its coveted Gold Medal to three new varieties for 2013. The organization awards its Gold Medal to novel varieties that have been tested by Fleuroselect’s independent judges at trial grounds across Europe and that have proven to be superior to existing varieties in terms of breeding innovation and beauty.

(left) Lewisia cotyledon Elise flowers in the first season without a cold period, unlike previously existing varieties. Elise is an almost exotic annual for rock gardens, beds and containers with its attractive succulent leaves. It begins flowering four to five months after sowing, showing off shades of pastel pink, rose, salmon, orange, white, yellow and a bicolor pattern. Garden retailers can offer Elise as a multi-season product from spring through fall.
(center) Dahlia Dalaya Yogi is a beautiful medium-vigor variety with stunning dark centers. It’s an early bloomer with medium vigor and mildew tolerance. Dalaya Yogi produces strong, floriferous, medium-sized plants, which grab attention for an extended flowering full season. Growers can produce sellable plants from cuttings within eight to 10 weeks.
(right) Celosia argentea plumosa Arrabona is a striking red-orange celosia with outstanding garden performance and long flowering season. Arrabona is drought tolerant and low maintenance, loves the heat, and is a great garden plant for diverse climates. It’s gorgeous as a single-colored planting or mixed with reds, oranges, yellows, whites and blues. GP
